President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said the late lawyer and activist, Tunji Braithwaite, would have been a strong supporter of his administration and a key figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) if he were still alive.

Speaking on Braithwaite’s legacy, Tinubu described him as a principled advocate of progressive ideals whose political philosophy aligned with the broader goals of his government.

Braithwaite, who founded the Nigeria Advance Party (NAP), was twice a presidential candidate — contesting in 1983 and again in 2003. He was widely known for his outspoken stance on governance, accountability and social justice.

Tinubu suggested that Braithwaite’s enduring commitment to reform and national development would have made him a natural ally in efforts to advance what he described as a progressive agenda for Nigeria.

The president’s remarks come as tributes continue to highlight Braithwaite’s influence on Nigeria’s political evolution, particularly his role in shaping discourse around democratic values and institutional accountability.
