The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, alongside former party leader Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, visited Kano’s Singer Market on Monday to console traders affected by a massive fire that swept through the commercial hub over the weekend.

The inferno, which erupted late Saturday night, destroyed hundreds of shops and goods estimated to be worth billions of naira, leaving traders facing severe financial losses.

During the visit, Prof. Yilwatda met with victims on-site, assessing the scale of destruction and offering condolences on behalf of the APC. “Our thoughts are with all affected families and traders. We urge relevant authorities to provide swift assistance to help rebuild livelihoods,” he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though preliminary reports indicate it spread rapidly through densely packed sections of the market. Traders have appealed to both state and federal governments for immediate relief and support, highlighting the potential economic ripple effects if recovery is delayed.

Market observers warn that such incidents underscore broader challenges in urban fire safety and market regulation, calling for urgent national interventions to prevent recurrence.
