The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) following a late-night attack on an off-campus hostel in Lafia, raising renewed concerns over the worsening security situation around tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped by heavily armed assailants who stormed a student residence located along Awe Road, close to the university’s temporary campus in Akunza, Lafia. The attackers are said to have whisked the students away to an unknown destination before security operatives could intervene.
Confirming the incident, the Nasarawa State Police Command said investigations were underway and that security personnel had launched a coordinated operation aimed at rescuing the abducted students and apprehending those responsible for the attack.
The latest incident has sparked anxiety among students and residents, with renewed calls for stronger security measures in and around university communities to curb the growing threat of kidnapping for ransom.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are being intensified to ensure the safe return of the victims, while urging residents to remain calm and provide any credible information that could assist ongoing rescue operations.
