A Federal Capital Territory High Court on Thursday ordered the remand of former Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) chairman Danladi Umar at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of his bail application.
Umar was arraigned before Justice Peter Kekemeke at the Maitama court on a four-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The anti-graft agency alleges that while serving as CCT chairman he conferred undue advantage on himself.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to all counts. Christopher Mshelia, counsel to the EFCC, asked the court to fix a date for trial and to remand Umar in custody pending further proceedings. Umar’s lawyer told the court a bail application had already been filed and urged that it be heard, but the prosecution said it had only just been served with the application and needed time to respond.
Justice Kekemeke remanded Umar at the Kuje facility and adjourned the matter to July 15, 2026, for the hearing and determination of the bail application.
