The Federal Government has said the recently concluded prisoner transfer agreement between Nigeria and Ethiopia is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing the pact as a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations and promoting the welfare of Nigerian citizens abroad.
According to the government, the agreement provides a legal framework for the transfer of convicted persons to their home countries, allowing them to serve the remainder of their sentences closer to their families and within familiar social environments.
Officials said the arrangement underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of Nigerians overseas while deepening diplomatic cooperation with African partners through humanitarian and justice sector reforms.
The government added that the initiative reflects its broader efforts to ensure that Nigerians, regardless of their location, benefit from policies centred on compassion, justice and international collaboration under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
