Ekiti State has taken a pioneering step in Nigeria’s fiscal governance by becoming the first state to domesticate the Nigeria Tax Administration Act. Governor Biodun Oyebanji on Tuesday signed the Ekiti State Revenue Administration Law, 2025, marking a major milestone in the state’s drive to modernise and strengthen its tax system.

The governor assented to the new revenue law during a brief ceremony held at the Executive Council Chamber in Ado-Ekiti, where he also signed the state’s 2026 budget of ₦415.57 billion.

Speaking at the event, Oyebanji emphasised that the domestication of the national tax framework would enhance transparency, boost internally generated revenue, and align Ekiti with global standards in tax administration.

He noted that the law provides a more coherent structure for revenue collection and enforcement, while reducing leakages and improving service delivery to taxpayers.

Government officials at the ceremony described the dual signing of the revenue law and the 2026 budget as a strategic move aimed at strengthening financial sustainability and ensuring effective implementation of the state’s development agenda.

Ekiti’s adoption of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act places it ahead of other states in harmonising national tax reforms at the sub-national level.
