The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has formally invited former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), in what appears to be a new phase in ongoing investigations into his time in office.

Malami confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, noting that he intends to fully comply with the anti-graft agency’s request.

“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC,” he wrote. “As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation.”

The former AGF said his decision to cooperate aligns with the principles of transparency and accountability in public service — values he insists he has consistently defended.

“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service – the principles that I both advocate and champion,” he added. “Rooted in public service and in the spirit of transparency and accountability, I am committed to sharing with the Nigerian public the developments as they unfold.”

The EFCC has yet to release details regarding the specific issues for which Malami has been summoned, but the invitation is expected to attract significant public and political attention given his central role in previous high-profile legal and financial decisions of the government.
