Nigeria’s educational landscape, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled key appointments for the leadership of the nation’s newly established federal universities of education.
The announcement, made on Wednesday through a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, underscores Tinubu’s commitment to advancing academic excellence.
Engineer Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore has been appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano. A distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nakore brings a wealth of experience from his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Rural Electricity Board in Jigawa State.
In addition, Professor Abdullahi Tukur Kodage has been named Vice-Chancellor of the Kano-based institution, while Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure, a renowned expert in science education and current Vice-Chancellor of Saadatu Rimi University of Education, Kano, will take the helm as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State.
The statement clarified that, in line with the institutions’ governing regulations, the Pro-Chancellor will serve a four-year term, while the Vice-Chancellors will hold office for five years.
These strategic appointments signal a transformative step forward for Nigeria’s education sector, positioning the new universities for impactful leadership and innovation.
