Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called on former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to apologise to airport personnel and pay the prescribed penalty over an alleged breach of airport parking regulations.
According to the minister, Obi is expected to take responsibility for what he described as an improper parking incident at an airport facility, insisting that no individual, regardless of political status or public profile, is above the rules governing Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Keyamo maintained that airport operational guidelines exist to guarantee safety, order and the smooth movement of passengers and aircraft, stressing that compliance with such regulations must be uniform and without exception. He argued that adherence to established procedures is essential to preserving discipline within the country’s aviation industry.
The minister further stated that, where a traffic or parking violation has occurred within an airport environment, the appropriate course of action is for the offender to acknowledge the breach, issue an apology to the affected airport staff and settle any applicable fine in line with existing regulations.
His remarks come amid public discussion surrounding the reported incident involving Peter Obi, with the matter drawing widespread attention on social media and generating debate over the enforcement of airport operational rules.
As of the time of filing this report, Peter Obi had not publicly responded to the minister’s comments or indicated whether he would comply with the demands.
