Nigeria’s oil industry, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has officially declared that the Warri Refining & Petrochemicals Company in Delta State is now back in operation. This news comes just weeks after the Port Harcourt Refinery’s restart.
During a recent tour of the facility, NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari confirmed the restart, showcasing the progress made so far. Although he noted that repairs are not yet complete, operations have commenced at the 125,000-barrel-per-day facility.
The Warri refinery, located in Ekpan, Uwvie, and Ubeji, is a key producer of polypropylene and carbon black. With a long history of supplying markets in the southern and southwestern regions of Nigeria, the facility’s mechanical completion was initially slated for early 2024.
With the successful restart of the Warri Refinery, Nigeria now has four operational refineries, strengthening the nation’s energy infrastructure and boosting domestic oil production.
