Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have conducted a search at the residence of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State.
The operation, which took place earlier today, was confirmed in a statement by Muyiwa Adekeye, Media Adviser to the former governor.
However, the search has been strongly condemned by El-Rufai’s legal team. Ubong Akpan, one of his lawyers, described the exercise as “unlawful” and a “clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”
The development is the latest in an ongoing investigation into allegations of financial misconduct levelled against the former governor, covering his eight-year tenure in office. According to sources, El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since Wednesday night, having been taken into their custody shortly after his release on administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
