Nigeria’s House of Representatives has called for the immediate implementation of state policing as concerns over rising insecurity continue to mount across the country.
Lawmakers urged relevant authorities to expedite constitutional and administrative measures required to establish state police, arguing that a decentralised policing system would enhance local security responses and strengthen efforts to combat crime and violence.
The resolution comes amid growing national debate over the effectiveness of the current centralised policing structure, with advocates insisting that state-controlled police forces would improve intelligence gathering, rapid response capabilities, and community-based law enforcement.
The House maintained that empowering states to take a more direct role in security management is crucial to addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.
