What was meant to be a ₦100,000 tithe has turned into a perplexing financial dispute for a churchgoer who mistakenly donated ₦1 million, only to be told by the pastor that the extra funds are “non-refundable.”
The stunned donor, who has chosen to remain unnamed, recounted how a simple slip of the finger led to a ten-fold overpayment. His intention was to contribute a generous ₦100,000, but an erroneous bank transfer resulted in ₦1 million landing in the church’s account.
Upon discovering the significant discrepancy, the man promptly reached out to the church’s pastor, hoping to rectify the error and retrieve the ₦900,000 difference. However, his request was allegedly rebuffed with the explanation, “Money given to Jesus is non-refundable.”
Frustrated and feeling unjustly treated, the donor escalated the matter to the police. Officers reportedly visited the church to mediate, but the pastor held his ground, challenging them with the statement, “Go to court and collect it this is a spiritual matter.”
The incident has sparked debate among onlookers about the ethics of handling mistaken donations and the boundaries between spiritual matters and financial accountability.
The donor is now contemplating legal action to recover the substantial sum.
