The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Thursday pledged to rally Nigerians ahead of the 2027 polls, accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of wrecking election credibility by approving last week’s amendment to the Electoral Act.
In a blistering statement issued by National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, the party branded the President’s signature “dangerously rushed”.

“By speedily assenting to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the death warrant of credible elections and shoved Nigeria’s democracy back decades,” ADC said.
The party argues the rewrite injects fresh confusion into the process: “The President claims he is consolidating democracy, but he’s only fouled it further—baking ambiguity into the collation and transmission rules and handing officials too much wiggle room.”

ADC questioned why a government that boasts of popular support would race to change the rules so close to the next vote, hinting the move reeks of fear of a level playing field.
Without iron-clad electronic safeguards, “citizens may feel forced to guard their ballots with their own hands to stop the old gap between polling-unit results and final tallies,” the party warned.
It vowed to fight back within the four corners of the law: “We will mobilise Nigerians to stay vigilant, engage lawfully and stand together to protect their constitutional rights.”
