Nigeria’s Court of Appeal in Abuja has reserved judgment on nine appeals filed by rival factions of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), deepening uncertainty over the party’s leadership crisis.

The appeals were submitted by groups loyal to Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose, challenging earlier rulings by the Federal High Court that halted the PDP’s national convention.

The disputed convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, was eventually held despite the court orders, leading to the emergence of Tanimu Turaki as national chairman, alongside other party officials.

The legal battle now before the Court of Appeal Abuja Division centres on whether the convention — and the leadership it produced — is valid under Nigerian law.

The crisis reflects widening internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party, once Nigeria’s dominant political force, as influential blocs struggle for control ahead of future elections.

A date for the judgment has not yet been announced. Political analysts say the ruling could prove pivotal for the party’s stability and its ability to mount a unified challenge to the ruling government.
