– Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is intensifying its nationwide electronic membership drive, with registrations fast approaching 12 million as the party sets an ambitious target of more than 20 million members.

Speaking on the ongoing exercise, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, disclosed that over 11 million Nigerians have already enrolled on the party’s digital platform, adding that the figure is steadily rising.

“We are targeting over 20 million members; we have already crossed 11 million and are closing in on 12 million. We are not closing our registration,” Yilwatda said.

The e-registration initiative, launched to modernise the party’s membership database and broaden its grassroots reach, allows Nigerians to sign up online from any part of the country. Party leaders say the system is designed to improve transparency, strengthen internal organisation and prepare the APC for future electoral contests.

Yilwatda noted that the registration process remains open-ended, stressing that the party is focused on continuous expansion rather than fixed deadlines.

Political analysts view the move as part of the APC’s strategy to consolidate its support base ahead of upcoming elections, amid growing competition from opposition parties and rising public scrutiny of governance.

Since its launch, the digital registration exercise has drawn significant interest, particularly among young Nigerians, as the party seeks to project itself as more inclusive and technologically driven.

APC officials say further reforms are underway to deepen member engagement and enhance participation across all levels of the party structure.
