The All Progressives Congress has rescheduled its National Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings, moving them from their originally scheduled dates to later in December.

The ruling party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, announced the new dates on Sunday via the party’s official X page, stating that the National Caucus meeting will now hold on Thursday, December 18 at 6 p.m., while the National Executive Committee meeting follows on Friday, December 19 at 1 p.m.

The meetings were initially scheduled for December 15 and 16 respectively. Both gatherings will take place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Basiru disclosed that the two meetings are being convened in accordance with Articles 12.5 and 12.3 of the APC constitution, which govern the procedures for calling such high-level party sessions. The constitutional provisions outline the requirements and protocols for National Caucus and NEC meetings, which serve as critical decision-making platforms for the party’s leadership.

While the party’s official announcement did not provide specific reasons for the postponement, sources within the National Working Committee suggested the schedule adjustment may be related to the commitments of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who serves as the party’s National Leader. The source, described as credible within the NWC, indicated that the President’s tight schedule likely influenced the decision to shift the meeting dates.

The National Caucus represents one of the most important organs of the APC, comprising key party stakeholders including the President, Vice President, state governors elected on the party’s platform, leadership of the National Assembly, and members of the National Working Committee. Decisions taken at Caucus meetings typically shape the party’s strategic direction and policy positions.

The National Executive Committee, meanwhile, serves as the party’s highest decision-making body between national conventions. NEC meetings bring together representatives from all state chapters, party leaders, and other stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues affecting the party’s operations and political strategy.
