The Nigeria Police Force has unveiled two new police divisions in a community in Kogi State, marking a major step towards strengthening grassroots security and improving rapid response to crime.
The new formations, commissioned on Friday, are aimed at bringing policing closer to residents while enhancing surveillance, intelligence gathering and community engagement across the area.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, senior police officials said the development reflects the Force’s renewed commitment to protecting lives and property, particularly in underserved and fast-growing communities.
According to the police, the additional divisions will help decongest existing commands, shorten emergency response times and provide a stronger security presence to deter criminal activity.
Community leaders welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and long overdue. They expressed optimism that the increased police footprint would curb crime and foster stronger cooperation between residents and law enforcement.
A spokesperson for the Force noted that the project aligns with ongoing reforms focused on community-based policing and infrastructure expansion nationwide.
“The establishment of these divisions underscores our resolve to ensure that every community feels the impact of effective policing,” the official said, urging residents to support officers with credible information to help sustain peace.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its call for continued collaboration with traditional rulers, youth groups and civil society organisations, stressing that security remains a shared responsibility.
