Nigeria’s People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has declared its intention to play a decisive role in the country’s 2027 elections, unveiling early signals of coalition-building while ruling out any alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party welcomed Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who indicated openness to contesting the presidency but stressed that his immediate priority remains national rebuilding.

PRP officials said the party is prepared to collaborate with “like-minded” political groups in a bid to strengthen its electoral prospects, underscoring a strategy that leans heavily on alliances in Nigeria’s competitive political landscape.

The exclusion of the APC from potential partnerships highlights a clear opposition stance, as parties begin early positioning ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 race.

Analysts say the move could reshape opposition dynamics if the PRP succeeds in rallying smaller parties and influential figures around a common platform.
