The leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kogi State chapter, recently paid a courtesy visit to the State Accountant-General, Chief Dr. Habibat Oyiza Tijjani Onumoko, at her residence in Okene.

The delegation, led by Kogi ALGON Chairman, Hon. Tosin Olokun, included the 21 All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidates, local government party chairmen, and women leaders.

The visit served as a platform for the delegation to reaffirm their commitment to grassroots development and to foster a collaborative relationship with the state’s financial office. Hon. Tosin Olokun addressed the delegation, urging both outgoing and incoming council chairmen to uphold the tenets of responsible leadership. He emphasized the necessity of unity and urged the leaders to work collectively to ensure the continued progress of their respective local government areas.

In her response, Dr. Tijjani Onumoko commended the leaders for their proactive approach to local governance. She stressed that stability at the local level is essential for state-wide development, particularly regarding security.

“The importance of peace and security at the grassroots cannot be overemphasized,” the Accountant-General stated. She called on the council chairmen to maintain close synergy with security agencies to prevent criminal elements from threatening the safety and development of their communities.

Dr. Tijjani Onumoko also encouraged the outgoing chairmen to prioritize a seamless transition of power, noting that a smooth handover is vital for the continuity of public service and the sustained growth of the local government councils.
