The Chief of the South African Army, Lieutenant General Lawrence Mbatha, has paid an official visit to major Nigerian military institutions in Kaduna State as part of efforts to deepen defence cooperation between South Africa and Nigeria.

During the visit, the South African Army chief toured strategic training facilities in Kaduna, including the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy and the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, where he was briefed on Nigeria’s military training programmes, operational doctrines and leadership development structures.

Nigerian military authorities said the visit aims to strengthen bilateral military relations, enhance professional exchanges and promote collaboration in areas such as training, counter-terrorism operations and regional security.

Officials added that the engagement reflects the growing defence partnership between the two African nations, particularly in tackling emerging security challenges across the continent.

The visit also provided an opportunity for both armies to share experiences on modern warfare strategies, peacekeeping operations and capacity building for officers and soldiers.
