The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared its resolve to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, despite lacking sitting governors in its ranks.
Speaking in Abuja after a high-level meeting of the party’s northern coalition bloc, ADC spokesman Malam Bolaji Abdullahi said governors are reluctant to join due to “intimidation” by the current administration. However, he insisted the ADC enjoys strong grassroots support from Nigerians frustrated by economic hardship and insecurity.
“They said we’d collapse in six months — we’re still here and growing. This is a people-led movement,” Abdullahi said. He also dismissed fears of internal hijack, stressing the party’s nationwide structure and commitment to transparency.
Former Senate President and interim party chairman, Senator David Mark, decried the dire state of the North, declaring, “The North is bleeding — and only we can heal it.” He called for unity and social cohesion to address deep-rooted regional challenges.
Echoing the sentiment, former SGF Babachir Lawal affirmed Northern leaders have been “mandated by the people” to pursue the region’s interests through the ADC, while warning the ruling APC that attempts to rig in 2027 will be met “tactic for tactic.”
The ADC insists it is the only viable alternative for Nigerians seeking change — and promises a fierce, fair electoral contest.
