Former Adamawa North Senator, Ishaku Elisha Abbo, has dismissed reports claiming he was arrested and detained by the Police over the alleged rape of a 13-year-old pupil.
Speculations emerged on Thursday that the ex-lawmaker was in custody at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, after being accused of sexually assaulting the minor at his Katampe residence on 29 June 2025.
In a swift response on Friday, Abbo described the allegations as “baseless, unfounded and mischievous”, insisting he was at home in Katampe Extension throughout the day.
“The report is the handiwork of my political detractors. It is a smear campaign aimed at disturbing my peace,” he told Senate correspondents via telephone.
Abbo admitted that he had earlier reported a woman to the Police for allegedly demanding ₦5 million from him, and that both parties were invited for questioning. However, he said it was “shocking” to see the case twisted into a rape allegation weeks later.
Meanwhile, the family of the alleged victim has accused Abbo of attempting to silence them with money and claimed that former Adamawa governorship candidate, Senator Aishatu Binani, visited them to discourage legal action.
The fresh controversy adds to the string of scandals linked to Abbo’s political career, including the widely condemned assault of a woman in an Abuja sex toy shop in 2019 and an alleged attempt to blackmail a married woman with a sex tape.
