…Police says 15 killed

The Plateau state Police command has confirmed the death of 14 persons as a result of the deadly attack by gunmen in Jos, the Plateau state capital.
Information from residents of Angwan Rukuba said the saw more than 20 deaths been conveyed to the hospital early this morning from the scene of attack.
The attacks reportedly took place at about 7:30pm on Palm Sunday at Gari Ya Waye community of Agwan-Rukuba of Jos North local government of Plateau state.
Unspecified numbers of residents were said to have been injured in the attacks.
Eye witness said the killing was well planned by the gunmen. “The gunmen stormed the area at about 7:30 last night and open fire on anyone they see. The sporadic sounds of the gun caused people to scamper for safety as the gunmen shoot indiscriminately.
Security personnel, including the Nigerian Army, reportedly arrived at the scene around 8:45 p.m. to restore order and secure the area.
“We saw at least 14 corpses been conveyed to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) early this morning. And we learnt that within the night 11 bodies were dropped at the hospital mortuary.
The situation remains tense, with residents urged to stay vigilant as authorities work to stabilize the community.
In response to the incident, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North, effective from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026, to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unprovoked, and assured that security agencies are on the trail of the perpetrators.
Residents have been advised to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah said the command has made adequate deployment to restore order in the affected community.
In a statement by the police public relations officer SP Alfred Alabo said, “the command commiserates with the people of Angwan Rukuba Community Jos North Local Government Area, over the unfortunate attack which took place on March 29, 2026, and claimed the lives of Twelve (12) persons – Ten (10) men and Two (2) women.
“As at this morning, additional two corpses were found while our men were combing the bushes and trailing the suspects for possible arrests.
“At about 08:30pm on 29th March 2026, the Command received a distress call reporting that gunshot sounds were heard around Angwan Rukuba axis. Upon receipt of this report, the Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command personally led a team of officers comprising of members of the Command’s Management Team, PMF Squadron Commanders, DPOs and Tactical Team Commanders within the Metropolis in conjunction with members of other security agencies to the scene of the incidence to reduce tension and restore calm in the general area.
“As we speak, the Police and all other security agencies within the State have organized a joint operations and are currently combing the nearby bushes to ensure that the suspects are arrested or dislodged in accordance with the law. The corpses of the deceased have been evaluated to the mortuary for autopsy and efforts are being intensified to arrest the culprits.
“While the identities of the victims are still being verified, the CP assures families of the deceased that investigations are underway to track the perpetrators of this dastardly act and ensure that the law take its course. He therefore calls on all citizens with accurate and useful information to contact the Command immediately”
