Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is plotting to freeze the bank accounts of the state government just days before the August 15 governorship election.
Governor Adeleke made the claim amid heightened political tensions in the state, describing the alleged move as an attempt to cripple the operations of his administration ahead of the crucial poll. According to him, the purported action is politically motivated and designed to undermine the electoral process.
The governor said his administration had received intelligence indicating that efforts were underway to secure an order that would restrict the state’s access to its funds, a development he warned could disrupt governance, delay salary payments and affect the delivery of essential public services.
Adeleke urged the EFCC and other federal institutions to remain impartial and avoid actions that could be perceived as interfering in the democratic process. He also called on the people of Osun to remain calm, vigilant and committed to ensuring that the forthcoming election is peaceful, free and credible.
