Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi State, has intensified his political realignment by purchasing the senatorial nomination form of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), just five days after defecting to the party.

Mohammed’s latest move comes amid mounting turbulence within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he formally exited on May 2, citing protracted legal battles and deepening internal divisions.

The governor’s rapid transition into the APM and immediate pursuit of a senate bid have fuelled speculation over shifting political calculations ahead of future elections, with analysts viewing the move as part of a broader realignment within Nigeria’s opposition politics.

His departure marks another setback for the PDP, a party grappling with internal fractures and leadership disputes that have triggered uncertainty over its cohesion and electoral prospects.
