Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ridiculed a faction within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), escalating tensions in the party’s ongoing internal dispute.

Reacting to reports that a group aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde—often referred to as the Turaki faction—plans to begin selling nomination forms, Wike questioned the legitimacy of their operations.

“I dare them to set up a place and call it the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja. You don’t run a secretariat from your bedroom,” he said.

The comments reflect deepening divisions within the PDP, as rival blocs jostle for control of party structures ahead of future elections. The dispute centres on authority over key decisions, including the sale of nomination forms, a critical step in determining candidates.

Political analysts say the public war of words underscores unresolved leadership tensions within the opposition party, raising concerns about its cohesion as Nigeria’s political landscape begins to shift towards the next electoral cycle.
