Authorities in the United Kingdom have announced heightened security measures, including airspace and road restrictions, ahead of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to meet King Charles III at Windsor Castle next week.

The visit, scheduled for March 18 and 19, will see President Tinubu accompanied by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, in what officials describe as one of the highest levels of diplomatic engagement hosted by the British monarchy.

According to a statement from Thames Valley Police, extensive security arrangements will be implemented across the town of Windsor to ensure the safety of the visiting delegation and members of the royal family.

Authorities said the measures will include a temporary expansion of restricted airspace above Windsor, as well as road closures and controlled access routes around key areas, particularly near Windsor Castle where the royal engagements will take place.

Police officials noted that the restrictions are part of standard security protocols for high-profile state visits involving foreign heads of state.

Residents and visitors have been advised to expect travel disruptions during the two-day event, with security personnel deployed across the town and surrounding areas.

The meeting between President Tinubu and King Charles is expected to underscore diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Nigeria, two nations with longstanding political, economic and historical ties.

While details of the private discussions have not been made public, analysts say the visit is likely to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation, trade relations and security collaboration between the two countries.
