Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed a revealing conversation with Tonye Cole, the 2023 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, which sheds light on Cole’s disregard for his loyalty to the influential politician, Rotimi Amaechi.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike recalled a discussion where Cole openly dismissed Amaechi’s influence over him. “Immediately, Tonye Cole saw that me and Governor Sim Fubara had issues, he came to my house, we sat at my swimming pool side,” Wike explained. When pressed about his allegiance to Amaechi, Cole’s response was blunt: “I don’t care about Amaechi, and Amaechi cannot tell me what to do. Imagine such a character.”
Wike did not hold back his criticism of Cole’s political demeanor, describing him as someone without the required character to engage in meaningful political dialogue.

“Tonye Cole cannot talk about the politics of Rivers and Nigeria and say he’s going to sit down with me, he has no character. At my level of politics, we are not on the same level,” Wike declared.
The conflict between the two has sparked widespread discussion, especially as Tonye Cole accuses Wike of perpetuating confusion within the political landscape.
Cole recently criticized Wike for maintaining his political stance and called on him to clarify his position, given Wike’s role in President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led administration, despite still being associated with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
