The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has praised residents for the peaceful conduct and impressive voter turnout recorded during the FCT Area Council elections, particularly across satellite towns.

Speaking to journalists shortly after monitoring the exercise in parts of the territory on Saturday, Wike described the polls as orderly and a reflection of the growing confidence of residents in grassroots democracy.

“We are impressed with the level of participation and the calm atmosphere observed in most polling units, especially in the satellite towns,” he said. “The turnout demonstrates that the people are committed to choosing leaders who will represent their interests at the local level.”

The elections, held across the six Area Councils of the FCT, witnessed early arrival of electoral officials and voters in several communities. Security personnel were also deployed to key locations to ensure a hitch-free process.

Wike commended the efforts of electoral officers and security agencies for maintaining professionalism throughout the exercise. He noted that the peaceful atmosphere underscored the FCT Administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring credible elections.

Residents in satellite communities such as Gwagwalada, Kuje and Abaji reported steady queues at polling centres, with many expressing optimism that the outcome would usher in improved infrastructure and service delivery.

The minister reiterated the administration’s resolve to work closely with the newly elected council chairpersons and councillors to accelerate development across the territory.
