Venezuelan authorities have ordered a nationwide police operation to locate and arrest anyone implicated in supporting efforts by the United States to capture President Nicolás Maduro, state media reported.
The directive comes amid escalating tensions between Caracas and Washington, following unconfirmed reports of alleged US-backed plots targeting the Venezuelan leader.
Officials described the measure as necessary to protect national sovereignty and warned that individuals involved would face severe legal consequences. “All persons providing assistance or support to foreign operations against the Venezuelan state will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” a government statement said.
The order reflects Venezuela’s long-standing accusations of US interference in its internal affairs, a recurring theme under Maduro’s administration. Relations between the two countries have remained strained, despite intermittent diplomatic engagement.
The announcement has raised concerns among opposition groups and international observers about potential crackdowns on perceived dissent, as authorities increase surveillance and security measures across the country.
As of now, no arrests have been publicly confirmed, but Venezuelan police have reportedly been mobilised in major cities and border regions to enforce the government’s directive.
