The United States has issued a stark warning to Iran, demanding the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours or risk sweeping attacks on its energy infrastructure.

US President Donald Trump delivered the ultimatum on Saturday, escalating tensions in an already volatile region, as Tehran launched what officials describe as its most destructive assault yet on Israel.

The threat comes just a day after Trump signalled a possible de-escalation, stating he was considering “winding down” military operations following three weeks of sustained conflict.

Despite that indication, the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed, disrupting global oil flows and raising fears of a wider economic shock.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon is reinforcing its presence in the region, with thousands of additional US Marines deploying to the Middle East amid mounting concerns of further escalation.

Iran has not yet publicly responded to the ultimatum.
