Troops deployed under Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested a man suspected of providing intelligence to kidnapping gangs and recovered a firearm during a security operation in Plateau State, military sources said.

The suspect, identified as Yahaya Haruna, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday during a raid on Mungi village in Mangu Local Government Area after security operatives received intelligence linking him to criminal groups operating in the area.

According to security sources, troops from Sector 8, Sub-Sector 81, launched the operation at about 12:15 a.m. following credible reports that the suspect had been supplying information to kidnappers.

A search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of a pistol believed to have been used in support of criminal activities.

“Acting on credible intelligence, troops arrested the suspect and recovered one pistol during a search of his residence,” the sources said.

The suspect has been taken into custody alongside the recovered weapon as investigators seek to establish the extent of his alleged involvement with kidnapping syndicates and trace the origin of the firearm.

Security officials said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network.

The arrest is part of ongoing operations by Operation Safe Haven to dismantle kidnapping cells and disrupt the support networks sustaining violent criminal groups across Plateau State.

Authorities have urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen efforts against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
