The Obidient Movement has called on former United States President Donald Trump to immediately halt the supply of guns and ammunition allegedly flowing into Nigeria, insisting that stopping the influx of weapons is critical to ending the persistent killings across the country.
In a statement released via Politics Nigeria, the group said Nigeria’s worsening insecurity is being fuelled by an unchecked proliferation of arms, which continues to empower criminal networks, insurgent groups, and violent actors.
The movement urged Trump—who remains an influential political figure in the US—to use his influence to push for stricter controls and monitoring of weapons entering Nigeria through international channels. According to the group, “peace cannot be achieved when dangerous arms keep finding their way into the hands of those intent on destabilising the country.”
They argued that the uncontrolled circulation of sophisticated weapons has led to a spike in banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and communal violence, leaving citizens in constant fear and undermining national stability.
The Obidient Movement further appealed to global leaders, arms-control watchdogs, and international partners to support Nigeria’s efforts to curb the illegal arms trade, stressing that genuine cooperation is essential to restoring peace.
They concluded by urging the Nigerian government to intensify diplomatic engagements, strengthen border security, and implement more robust oversight mechanisms to prevent weapons from entering the country through unofficial routes.
