The Presidency has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is not searching for “perfect people” in its latest ambassadorial nominations, but individuals capable of effectively representing Nigeria’s interests abroad.

Speaking on Monday, a senior government official said the process of selecting ambassadors focuses on competence, experience and commitment to national service, rather than unrealistic expectations of flawlessness.

According to the official, no government anywhere in the world appoints individuals who are “without shortcomings,” noting that what matters most is integrity, capacity and loyalty to the nation.

He explained that the President is determined to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign missions with credible men and women who can project the country’s image, drive economic diplomacy, and support citizens in the diaspora.

The Presidency also urged the public to avoid politicising the selection process, stressing that each nominee will still undergo rigorous screening by the Senate, as required by law.

The new ambassadorial list is expected to help reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy direction as the government moves to deepen global partnerships and attract investment.
