Nigerian troops have foiled a deadly terrorist ambush in Borno State, rescuing 92 kidnapped victims and recovering eight vehicles during a coordinated military operation in the country’s troubled northeast.
The operation, carried out by security forces combating armed groups in the region, reportedly disrupted the attackers’ plans and led to the safe rescue of dozens of abducted civilians held in captivity.
Military authorities said the troops engaged the insurgents in a fierce confrontation, forcing them to retreat and abandon several vehicles during the operation. The rescued victims were later evacuated to safety, while security forces intensified clearance operations across surrounding communities.
Borno State has remained at the centre of Nigeria’s decade-long battle against armed groups, with residents frequently targeted through kidnappings, roadside attacks and raids on rural settlements.
The latest operation comes amid renewed military offensives aimed at weakening insurgent networks and restoring security across the northeast.
