Former aviation minister, Hadi Sirika, has announced plans to contest for the Katsina North senatorial seat in Nigeria’s 2027 elections, despite currently standing trial over alleged corruption charges.
Speaking on Friday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Katsina, Sirika said the decision followed sustained pressure from his supporters, who urged him to return to elective politics.
“I have been persuaded by my people to step forward and represent them,” he said, signalling a renewed political ambition even as legal proceedings against him continue.
Sirika, who previously represented Katsina North in the Senate before serving as a minister, is facing trial over allegations of financial misconduct during his time in office. He has denied any wrongdoing.
There has been no official reaction from electoral authorities or opposition parties regarding his declaration.
