The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to fostering open governance, accountability, and youth inclusion within the framework of the Open Government Partnership (OGP). This bold pledge was announced by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, during a high-profile dinner with civil society organisations and the OGP Secretariat in Abuja.
Mr Olawande emphasised that nurturing strong values, value-driven leadership, and civic awareness among Nigeria’s youth is pivotal to forging a more robust and united nation. He highlighted the transformative reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which prioritise youth integration. “Our focus is on the future, not just the present. We are thrilled to leverage the OGP framework to sustain and enhance these reforms, recognising the vital role young people play in shaping our nation’s destiny,” he declared.
The minister lauded the government’s active participation in the OGP and expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their steadfast support. “I assure you, Nigeria is fully committed to upholding this global agreement. As Minister of Youth, I am delighted to witness the synergy between youth development and open governance,” Mr Olawande added.
Former Deputy Budget Minister Clem Agba echoed these sentiments, underscoring that the OGP thrives on transparency and stability but requires adequate funding to succeed. He praised President Tinubu’s visionary leadership and reform agenda, which continue to drive Nigeria’s progress within the global partnership.
This renewed commitment signals a dynamic push towards a more transparent, inclusive, and youth-focused Nigeria, poised to lead by example on the global stage.
