The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has revealed that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai is facing what he described as “extremely difficult” bail conditions as he remains in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai has been detained since February 19 over allegations of financial impropriety linked to his administration as Kaduna State governor between 2015 and 2023.
Speaking on the development, Sanusi said the former governor’s release has been delayed by stringent bail requirements imposed by the anti-graft agency, describing the conditions as exceptionally demanding.
The ICPC is investigating allegations of financial misconduct during el-Rufai’s eight-year tenure in office. The former governor has yet to publicly respond to the latest remarks, while the commission has continued its probe into the case.
The investigation marks one of the highest-profile corruption cases involving a former state governor in recent months, drawing widespread political and public attention.
