The Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday invited the Lagos chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mustapha Sego, over allegations that he made threatening remarks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sego came under fire after a viral video showed him addressing union members in Yoruba, warning that a repeat of the 2023 electoral events would not be tolerated. He was heard saying those who “make mistakes in 2027 will be dealt with,” while urging support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The comments sparked outrage, with critics accusing him of attempting to intimidate voters.
Sego Denies Wrongdoing
In a follow-up disclaimer video, Sego confirmed he had honoured the DSS invitation but denied threatening voters, insisting his message was directed solely at union members.
“I have always been a man of peace, and my remarks were only meant for our members. Everyone has the right to freely associate and make their political choices, and I respect that,” he said.
‘Plot to Destabilise Union’
Sego further alleged that the controversy was fuelled by rivals seeking to discredit him and destabilise the Lagos transport union.
“There is always an enemy in every job. This is clearly an attempt to weaken my leadership and destabilise the NURTW in Lagos State,” he added.
The DSS has yet to issue an official statement on the outcome of the interrogation.
