Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured the people of Borno State that Nigeria will not surrender to terrorism following a deadly attack on Darajamal community in the Bama Local Government Area. The attack, which took place late Friday night, claimed numerous lives, including both civilians and soldiers, marking one of the deadliest Boko Haram assaults in recent months.
In a statement on Monday, Shettima expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it a national tragedy, and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening military operations to eliminate the insurgents responsible for the carnage.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots,” Shettima said. “These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families.”
The Vice President went on to highlight President Bola Tinubu’s directive for a more robust military strategy in response to the growing insurgency. This includes increased deployments of drones, surveillance systems, and cutting-edge technology to neutralise terrorist hideouts.
“The Federal Government is resolute in ensuring that no stone is left unturned in this fight,” Shettima stated, emphasizing that Nigeria would not yield to the forces of terror.
Governor Zulum also visited Darajamal on Saturday to express solidarity with the grieving families and frontline troops, reinforcing Borno’s determination to remain steadfast in the battle against terrorism. “We will not allow terrorists to break our resolve,” Zulum said during the visit.
Shettima further mentioned that discussions on establishing state police were ongoing, noting that localised forces, familiar with the terrain and communities, could play a vital role in addressing specific security threats in the region.
In a final message, the Vice President offered prayers for the souls of the departed and assured the people of Borno, as well as other states affected by insurgency, of continued federal support. He declared that terrorism would never triumph over the unity of Nigeria.
