The Sokoto State Government has approved N1 billion for the 2026 Ramadan feeding programme, increasing the number of feeding centres from 155 to 170 across the state.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu announced the approval on Sunday while inaugurating committees tasked with supervising activities at the various centres.
He said the expansion followed feedback, complaints and observations recorded during last year’s exercise, which necessitated broader coverage to reach more beneficiaries.
According to the governor, about 34,000 plates of food will be served daily throughout the holy month of Ramadan under the programme.
Aliyu explained that the N1 billion allocation would cover the procurement of food items, payment of labourers and other logistics to ensure the smooth implementation of the initiative.
He urged wealthy individuals and corporate bodies to complement government efforts by supporting the less privileged, noting that Ramadan underscores the values of charity, compassion and social responsibility.
The annual feeding programme is aimed at cushioning the impact of economic hardship on vulnerable residents during the fasting period.
