Port Harcourt, Nigeria — Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dissolved the State Executive Council, ordering all commissioners and special advisers to immediately hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.
The development, announced on Tuesday, marks a major political reset in the oil-rich South-South state and comes amid heightened tensions within Rivers’ political landscape.
In a brief directive, Governor Fubara instructed affected officials to ensure a smooth transition by transferring official responsibilities and government property without delay. No official reason was given for the sweeping dissolution.
The move effectively brings the tenure of all appointed cabinet members to an abrupt end, paving the way for a possible reconstitution of the state’s executive arm.
Political observers say the decision could signal a broader restructuring of governance in Rivers State, as well as a strategic effort by the governor to consolidate control and reposition his administration.
