The Nigerian Senate will on Tuesday debate a motion addressing allegations of a so-called “systemic genocide” against Christians in the country.
The motion, sponsored by Senator Ali Ndume and co-sponsored by Senators Sani Musa, Aliyu Wamakko, and Ibrahim Bomai, is titled “Urgent need to correct misconceptions regarding the purported ‘Christian genocide’ narrative in Nigeria and international communities.”
It calls on the Federal Government—particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant security agencies—to adopt a data-driven approach in its public communications.
The senators urged the foreign affairs ministry and security agencies to release verified casualty figures, detailed situational reports, and findings from investigations into victims of insecurity. They argued that such transparency is vital to counter misinformation both domestically and abroad.
Senator Ndume and his colleagues said the motion seeks to correct “dangerous misrepresentations” portraying Nigeria’s complex security challenges as a targeted campaign against Christians.
