Rivers United have emerged as Nigeria’s highest-ranked club in the latest Confederation of African Football (CAF) list, taking 24th position on the continent with 14 points.

The Port Harcourt side have become the country’s most consistent flagbearers in recent seasons, regularly making the latter stages of CAF competitions.

CAF released the updated club rankings ahead of the 2025/26 continental season, with the draw for the preliminary rounds of the Champions League and Confederation Cup scheduled for Saturday in Tanzania.

Enyimba, Nigeria’s most successful side on the African stage, ranked 35th with 7 points, missing the top 30. The two-time Champions League winners have struggled to match past performances in recent years. Their last group stage outing came in the 2024/25 Confederation Cup, where they crashed out early.

The rankings consider results from the last five seasons, with recent campaigns carrying more weight. Rivers United’s higher position reflects their steadier run compared to other Nigerian clubs.

Egypt’s Al Ahly lead the continental table with 78 points, followed by Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa with 62, and Tunisia’s Espérance with 57.
