Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has responded to comments made by John Mbata, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, regarding the state’s political leadership. Mbata had recently asserted that there is only one governor in Rivers State, a remark that sparked reactions across the region.
In a statement on Tuesday, Wike reaffirmed his position, emphasising his continued influence in the state’s governance and politics. He also disclosed that an agreement he signed with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, in the presence of President Bola Tinubu, would soon be made public.
“The agreement I signed with Governor Fubara before President Tinubu will be released to the public shortly,” Wike stated, describing it as a historic and binding document that outlines political understandings and commitments within Rivers State.
Wike’s comments come amid ongoing political debates in the state, with supporters and critics closely watching the dynamics between the outgoing and incoming administrations. Analysts suggest that making the agreement public could have significant implications for the political landscape in Rivers State.
The governor, however, did not disclose the specific terms of the agreement, leaving observers to speculate on its potential impact.
The exchange between Wike and Mbata highlights the delicate balance of political authority in Rivers State, as the state prepares for future elections and governance transitions.
