A Rivers State High Court sitting in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Port Harcourt, on Friday issued an interim injunction restraining the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, along with two others—including the Clerk of the House—from sending any correspondence to the Chief Judge of the state regarding the ongoing impeachment.

The court also barred the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, from receiving, forwarding, considering, or acting upon any request, resolution, articles of impeachment, or related documents from the defendants involved, preventing the constitution of any panel to investigate alleged misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, for seven days.

Presiding judge Justice F.A. Fiberesima made this ruling following ex parte motions filed separately by Governor Fubara and Deputy Governor Odu in Suit Nos. OYHC/7CS/2026 and OYHC/6CS/2026. The judge also authorised the claimants to serve the interim order and originating processes at the Rivers State Assembly quarters gate and directed that these documents be served to the Chief Judge through any judiciary staff at the High Court premises.

The case has been adjourned to January 23, 2026, for hearing of the motion.

Meanwhile, our correspondent reports that the Rivers State House of Assembly resolved on Friday to proceed with the impeachment process against the governor and his deputy. Notably, four lawmakers who had previously withdrawn from the impeachment move and urged colleagues to do the same reversed their stance on Friday, accusing the governor of obstinacy.
