Nigeria’s House of Representatives has summoned the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to appear before its Ad-hoc Committee investigating the alleged establishment of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) without legal authorisation.
The lawmakers are seeking explanations over claims that the council operated despite concerns that it lacked the necessary legal backing required for its establishment.
The committee is expected to question both officials on the circumstances surrounding the creation, operations and official recognition of the council, as well as the roles played by their respective offices.
The investigation forms part of the House’s oversight responsibilities aimed at determining whether due process was followed in setting up the PFIPC and whether public institutions acted within the confines of the law.
Lawmakers have expressed concerns over reports that the council carried out official functions despite allegations that it was not established through any recognised legal framework.
The summons marks a significant step in the House’s probe, with the committee expected to examine the legality of the council’s activities and recommend appropriate measures based on its findings.
