Nigeria’s federal government has called on foreign partners to support the country’s fight against insecurity through intelligence sharing and the provision of military equipment rather than deploying foreign troops on Nigerian soil.
Speaking on the issue, officials said Nigeria remains capable of handling its internal security challenges but would benefit significantly from stronger international cooperation in intelligence gathering, surveillance technology and specialised defence equipment.
The government stressed that collaboration with global partners is welcome, particularly in areas that enhance the operational capacity of the nation’s armed forces. However, it maintained that the presence of foreign combat troops within Nigeria’s territory is not being considered.
Authorities argue that intelligence-led operations and improved military hardware would enable Nigerian security agencies to more effectively counter armed groups and other security threats affecting parts of the country.
Nigeria has faced persistent security challenges in recent years, including insurgency in the northeast, banditry in the northwest and violent criminal activity in several regions.
The government says strengthening partnerships focused on intelligence support, training and modern equipment will help Nigerian forces address these threats while maintaining the country’s sovereignty.
