Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 elections, has criticised Peter Obi over his reported exit from the Labour Party (LP), describing the move as a poor reflection of leadership.

Speaking amid ongoing tensions within the party, Baba-Ahmed said leaving in the middle of a crisis “is not what good presidents are made of,” suggesting that strong leadership requires staying to resolve internal challenges rather than walking away from them.

He also cast doubt on the electoral viability of a potential alliance between Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, noting that such a partnership may struggle to gain traction among voters in northern Nigeria.

The remarks highlight widening cracks within opposition ranks, as political actors continue to reposition ahead of future elections. Analysts say internal divisions and uncertain alliances could significantly shape the balance of power in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
